(More customer reviews)We had trouble locating the correct headset for our Motorola radios, model RDU4160d. If you get an "unapproved" model, the speaker on the radio won't shut off when the phones are plugged in -- defeating the purpose.
These phones are the right ones, and work well -- once you learn two things:
1. You must insert the plug FIRMLY. There's a last 1/4" to push it in which isn't obvious, and the radio's speaker won't cut off if you don't. (This is probably designed to seal out moisture and dirt, but it's not easy to plug/unplug.)
2. The VOX setting on the RDU4160d is not obvious. If you DON'T want voice activation, you mustn't use the "OFF" setting (logically the correct choice). Set VOX to low, medium or high, turn the radio on with headset already connected, and use the transmit (PTT) button on the radio one time. This will deactivate the VOX feature. (If you set it to "off", it will always be in a very sensitive VOX mode.)
IMPORTANT: Check the Accessory Part Numbers for your specific Motorola radio before purchasing a headset! They look interchangable, but they're not!
