1st - I want you to know I have had experience with motorcycle bluetooth headsets. The last one I owned and still own is a Cardo Scala Rider.
Now on to the review:
I think I'll start with the horrible A2DP quality... I have a blackberry storm and play music through the storm utilizing the A2DP functionality. More often than not, the music skips or sounds like it is trying to catch up with itself. I thought maybe I needed to move the device closer, so I did just that. I moved it from my right pocket of my jacket to my left. That placed it on the same side of the helmet as the bluetooth puck. Still no luck. The only time I was successful in stopping the skipping was if the phone was mounted to my handlebars.
Lets move on to the Remote.
The remote is a GREAT idea, but sadly I can not fully pull in my clutch when it is on the left side. Putting it on the right makes for some tricky situations where I want to press a button, but it will cause me to open the throttle more! With the latest release of firmware they have enabled audio feedback that lets you know a button is being pushed. That helped because you didn't always know if it was being registered when you pushed the buttons.
Volume -
Here I can actually say I am only disappointed that the headset seems to keep defaulting back to a low sound even though I went through their menu of choices to turn the standard volume higher. It is hard when you are driving and are trying to hear the voice asking who you want to call. If you guess it is asking and answer correctly, the volume of the person you are talking to is fine. It is just the default system volume that seems to turn itself down. It is a pain when you are driving and can't stop to look for a quiet place to hear what it is asking you.
Radio -
What a HUGE disappointment. After giving up on the A2DP, I figured I would try the fm modulation my GPS does to see how music sounded from it. Well it was pretty scratchy to say the least. I wondered before because the headset didn't seem to pick up many stations very well. I got my old Cardo Scala Rider out and tried it. Sure enough, the music was coming through crystal clear!
Phone -
Two issues come to mind. 1 - The little foam wind guard fell off 2 days after owning it. My cardo, which I have owned for two riding seasons still has the original foam wind guard. I also have the spare that it came with. Too bad Parrot doesn't include a spare! Also, the last 2 phone calls I had people said I sounded muffled. Almost like something was in front of my mouth as I was speaking. The microphone was the only thing in front of my mouth!
Bottom line - I am returning it and looking to upgrade to the Cardo Scala Q2. I really had high hopes for the parrot as it really has some great features. Also the audio quality when it worked, was excellent. I would rather have no static and skipping, than have dynamic bass, etc...
I am giving them 2 stars for innovation and effort. No one else is out there doing what they are with all of the different technologies they are implementing into such a neat package. They need to work on some basics though before their neat package is a functional package.Cardo has them beat hands down right now in quality.
