(More customer reviews)The E51 is sleek, built for style and productivity...a rare combination that means popularity with true merit. So I'm quite puzzled that this phone isn't being pushed as much as the N95.
It's got the right dimensions, not too heavy in the shirt pocket, feels good in my hand, the keypad has excellent touch and layout with 1-press keys for Calendar, Contacts, Email, Bluetooth (on/off) and Silent/General mode.
It's real cool that the 1-press keys for Calendar, Contacts and Email have different modes.
Short press starts the app (Calendar, Contacts, Email).
Long press starts a new record within the app (new calendar entry, new contact, new message).
I've re-assigned the 1-press key for Email to start the Messaging app, and long press starts the CryptoGraf Messaging app to encrypt my messages.
There's WLAN internet access with a proper browser. The camera, with just 2 MegaPixels, is good enough for my needs.
The screen is crystal clear and good for viewing video and images. BTW, I thought it gets scratched quite easily, but that's just the plastic screen protector. I removed the screen protector and the screen stays scratch free even after I put the phone in my trouser pocket along with my keys.
Another feature that makes the upgrade from E50 to this E51 a great idea...there's a font setting for adjusting the menu font sizes to Large, Medium, Small.
Voice call quality is quite good. The speakers are also quite good but they're awkwardly located on the back.
The volume controls on the side of the phone are not easy to use...it's quite confusing that the 'cursor key' acts as a volume control for the media player, but the voice call volume control is on the side of the phone.
The CPU is very fast at 350MHz, Bluetooth 2.0+EDR, Mini USB 2.0, 2.5 mm A/V connector. The BP-6MT 1050mAh battery gives me great talk time and standy time even with liberal use of bluetooth and WLAN.

Nokia Astound Symbian Phone (T-Mobile) Review

I so much wanted to love this phone C7/Astound because of its awesomely better mechanical design compared to the above phones, and I'm a fan of the Nokia radio/call quality compared to the above phones. But this C7 has been the most frustrating and most buggy phone I've ever had to use. I'm surprised it actually got out of Nokia Q/A (Quality Assurance), it is so full of bugs. I'm perplexed at so many positive reviews of this phone on other review sites including T-Mobile???
First, the GOOD things:

I love the Nokia C7 hardware design. That's why I got the C7 in first place. It's slim, solidly built unlike many of the plastic-y touchscreen phones and BB. And WHEN the phone can make calls (and that's iffy...more on that below), the call quality is excellent.
And I like that the turn-by-turn navigation is built-in and free, with maps in phone memory, so no data charges when traveling abroad....A Much better app than say Google's navigation on Android phones, although I would prefer to have street names spoken, which I could not get to work.
The built-in Swype keyboard is an awesome improvement over iPhone or vanilla Android touchscreen keyboards (ALTHOUGH Nokia's implementation seems to be old by a few revisions, or has fewer features than Swype implementations on some other phones...like corrections, etc).
And Finally the camera function in the phone is reasonably good WHEN it works (more on that later)...There is a nice dedicated camera button on the phone...but the images appear "soft" to me and the lack of an auto-focus means you can't take pics of handwritten paper notes.
But enough of the positives...
I've had to invest lots of time to "learn" the quirks of Symbian, this phone, and work-arounds for lots of "bugs" that are in the phone. These aren't hardware problems...if you do a web search you'll find that multiple people are reporting these same issues I experienced.
PROBLEMS ENCOUNTERED:

(I use the phone with NO 3rd party apps installed. This is a plain-vanilla installation of the phone as it comes from t-Mobile with the recommended software updates, so the issues I report are not due to some wayward installed App.)
- Right out of the box after setup, my first "plain vanilla" using of the phone, I got "Memory Full" errors. Could not do anything with the phone until a re-boot. These "Memory Full" errors still happen every 1-2 days requiring re-boots.
- Periodically I get an "Unexpected Error" when I use the camera. It will just not allow the camera to be used. Needs a reboot, very frustrating.
- When making 2G/3G phone calls I periodically get "Connection error." Since I can re-dial the same number, there is not a problem with the phone number...it is a problem with the phone. Somehow the phone is getting confused and not allowing connection sometimes? It is frustrating and unreliable to count on to be able to dial a call.
- Compounding the dialing issue is that one time the phone switched to a mode where it thought there was a wired headset plugged into the phone (you can see the headset icon on the screen)...but I had no headset! So when I dialed or answered a call, there was no sound since the phone "believed" it was using a headset! Obviously no headset was attached, and since I never use the headset jack there was no debris stuck in it. Reboot fixed it...but disconcerting that I might not be able to use the phone when I need it.
- The email program does not accept Outlook meeting invitations! Hello? It's 2011, and every smartphone can accept Outlook meeting invites, except Nokia.
- The built-in games on the phone act flakey. These are standard products in the phone, so they should work, right? Wrong. Playing the games multiple times will often result in a blank screen, requiring a reboot to fix. I don't let my kids play the games anymore.
I can go on, but I so wanted this phone to work. I'm highly disappointed, and am suspicious of the glowing positive reviews on other sites for the C7.

(More customer reviews)I've been a loyal Nokia user since the 8860. They have just always been fun, straight forward and easy to use phones. The only thing Nokia lacks here in the USA is the customization options that the rest of the world enjoys on a daily basis. Most phones are locked down by carriers and rebranded with their own applications here in the US. This unlocked GSM capable Nokia makes that a thing of the past. Don't want to pay AT&T for an internet fee and a GPS navigation fee? Done. Want to delete whatever programs you wish from the phone? Done. Want to download apps that directly compete and are better than the ones AT&T or T-Mobile force you to use? Done.
Calls come through loud and clear on AT&T's network. I have full 3G coverage and have yet to drop a call. When using the internet away from a WiFi network, you get access to AT&T's speedy 3.5G network. 3.5G comes in very handy when using the free GPS turn by turn navigation. Yes, outside the US Nokia has been doing this for ages. It's the greedy US carriers that have blocked it all these years. Not anymore with an unlocked phone from Nokia, although you still need a data plan from your carrier. Battery life is great too, but that's expected from Nokia.
Messaging works great with easy access to received and sent texts, and the keyboard makes for speedy typing. Plus several of the keys have very handy shortcuts to commonly used features such as bluetooth, emoticons (smileys) , and a flashlight.
WiFi is a breeze to use. You can view networks in range and even set priority levels for which ones you prefer to use. The screen is a little small to be your go to surfing device, but it's more than competent for checking email, posting on facebook, and looking up sports scores.
The device also comes with a mobile version of Microsoft Office document reader. This is extremely handy for the mobile professional.
One other great thing about this unlocked phone is that you can listen to FM or internet radio. I have missed this feature since AT&T began locking their phones down around the time of the Cingular branded Nokia 6230 (my still going strong backup phone). Pair this with a 3.5mm headphone jack and the more than capable music player, and you have yourself a nice little music phone.
The only complaint I have with this phone is the cheaper TFT screen Nokia used to keep the cost down. This does cause the screen to become washed out in direct sunlight, but only from one side. It's weird, if you tilt the phone to the left, the screen stays bright, but when you tilt the phone to the right, the screen becomes washed out. With that said, I live in Denver where we get over 300 days of sun every year. I have yet to be in a situation where I could not read the screen. If its too dark you can simply change your theme to a brighter, more colorful one to help with visibility.Pros:

(More customer reviews)I am overall satisfied with this phone, Pros: I like the fact I can pop my operator SIM without jailbreaking/unlocking the phone - built in wifi, full bluetooth functionality, fm radio, and gps are very nice to have and enable many interesting apps and uses. Home screen panels let you put shortcuts and content all in one place. You can use it as a mobile hotspot with the JoikuSpot app. Ovisotre has a good amount of additional apps, and there are a lot of Symbian applications that can be installed from the PC or directly in the phone. The full qwerty keyboard is very nice and the battery life is good even with moderate to heavy browsing gps navigation. you can also carry a spare battery. the camera is good by smartphone camera standards.
Cons: I have not been able to hook yahoo, hotmail or gmail account with the built in email program, I had to use a third party app called Emoze. Too bad the built in app can't be used as a regular pop3 / imap client. The built in sms messaging app does not support threaded views, you'll have to buy an additional app for that (ThreadSMS - at least it is cheap). You'll want to replace the included 2Gb micro sd card (almost filled with OviMaps files) with a bigger 4Gb or 8Gb one if you are planning on uploading many music files / videos, etc. you cannot charge the phone via the usb port. The phone does not include a stylus, you can get the job done with your fingers or nails, but for some operations it would be nice to have the extra precision.
In summary this is a nicely priced phone given the specs and features it has, and most shortcomings can be solved with additional apps, memory.
