Garmin nüvi 2460LMT 5-Inch Widescreen Bluetooth Portable GPS Navigator with Lifetime Map & Traffic Updates Review

Garmin nüvi 2460LMT 5-Inch Widescreen Bluetooth Portable GPS Navigator with Lifetime Map and Traffic Updates
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
We owned a Garmin Nuvi 760 for years and were very happy with the unit. Solid features and solid construction. Had no plans to upgrade till the unit was stolen from a rental car. I considered other manufacturers but kept coming back to Garmin. Reviewed their products, relative features, and written opinions, did my feature and cost comparisons and settled on the 2460LMT. Why?
1. I wanted the larger 5" screen. When you are driving your attention should be on the road. Larger features are easier to read and understand. Even the difference between a 4.3" and 5" unit is important and helps when you are driving in an unfamiliar city.
2. The voice command feature allows you to operate the unit hands free. The voice recognition performance of the unit is excellent and the menu structure is thoughtfully formulated. This is a great feature.
3. The routing/navigation feature-sets are the most current available since this is a new unit release. The auto zoom on the map is a nice addition. The lane assist feature that Garmin implemented is also very helpful when you are in heavy traffic in an unfamiliar city.
4. The construction of the unit seems solid. Having dropped my 760 onto the pavement on occassion I was very concerned with the vulnerability of the glass screens on the 3760 and 3790 units - an issue reported by some users. If you are going to own a GPS (or cell phone) you are going to drop it, so having a durable unit is important.
5. The Garmin touch screen has good sensitivity, good brightness and contrast, and limited glare (a bigger problem for capacitance type glass screens like the 3760 and 3790)
6. This unit has bluetooth for hands free calling - as did my 760. This is a nice feature that allows you to keep your hands on the wheel and attention on road - where they belong.
7. I chose the LMT variety because I travel often for work, and all over the country. The lifetime maps and traffic are a great deal compared to buying a unit and then paying for map updates and a travel subscription. Map updates do matter. If you are buying a GPS, buy one with the lifetime maps and save yourself some money.
8. My old unit had MSN direct for online traffic, weather and gas pricing and I had purchased the lifetime access. MSN Direct is ceasing operations on Jan 2012 and only two current production Garmin units have a comparable feature using a different service provider - called NuLink. If you buy the NuLink unit, after the first year you have to pay an annual subscription fee to continue your online access. I didnt want that hassle and so picked the LMT for the lifetime traffic. As noted elsewhere, this comes with pop-up adds that appear when the vehicle is stopped. These are small banner ads that appear at the top 20% or so of the screen. They are far less intrusive than I feared when I read the alarmist horror stories written in some reviews. I spent last weekend visiting/driving in Chicago and my travel was not impeeded by these adds. The traffic alerts are clearly presented and understandable - but note that they are limited to major Metro areas. So you should look at the coverage area map link from the Garmin web site to ensure your city is covered if this is important to you.
So to summarize, this is a well built and very functional unit that matched my needs and performs better than I'd hoped. Certainly 5 stars.
And my final thought. Be sure to register your GPS with your manufacturer and use the locking feature if available (e.g. Garmin-lock). This will prevent a thief from ever being able to use your unit if it is stolen.

Olympus AS-2400PC Transcription Kit Review

Olympus AS-2400PC Transcription Kit
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Ended up returning this product because the files I needed to use were not compatible with the software, and the foot pedal is not compatible with any other software, so the whole thing was useless. The software only supports a few types of audio files and there is no capability to support video. I was working on transcribing focus groups with at least 6 people so I needed to be able to use the video for reference. Olympus does not even sell a software that supports video. Olympus uses proprietary coding to communicate between the foot pedal and the computer, so it is impossible to set up the foot pedal to work with any other program and no patches are available. When I called customer support to find out if there was a way to convert the files to a supported format, they told me that the format I had (asf) did not exist, which of course is ridiculous. I ended up going with an Infinity foot pedal and the free software ExpressScribe, which supports video and many different kinds of files. In the end I spent less than a third of what I spent on this kit. Quality-wise, the foot pedal was good and the headset was cheap.

VideoSecu High Sensitive Preamp Microphone Kit for Security Audio Sound Voice Monitoring Recording Free 100 Feet Cable and Power Supply 1UB
Average Reviews:

I use this microphone with other professional mics for bird and wildlife audio as well as general security. Please note - LOUDNESS is determined by the gain (think volume control) of the security unit circuits - not just this microphone. More about that below if you wish to read on. For now I will say that this mic, being "powered", has a low noise level and a high sensitivity in a 60 degree cone to the the general direction it is pointing. It is very transparent but does not have (or need) outstanding fidelity. It has AGC (automatic gain control) to even out the loud and soft sounds and that is a good feature. It is ideal for security uses and the price is right! Is it loud enough to capture the elusive noise you WANT to record with your security DVR? It depends on you DVR audio circuits and how quiet of a noise you EXPECT to record. You will just have to try it but I suspect that most "powered" security mics will record at about the same loudness. In a nutshell, this one seems to be a very good value.

Details - - - My microphones all go through an audio mixer before patching into the security DVR or other recorder. Yes, I have meters to monitor and adjust loudness too. Also, I listen with headphones to avoid any chance of feedback loops. If I want any mic to be louder (more sensitive to faint sounds in the lingo of an audio engineer) I turn up the mixer's gain. In theory the more you amplify a microphone signal the fainter and more distant the sound you can hear - but there are always limits in the real world, huh?
Turn any mic way, way up and you may hear the rumble from your home's fridge motor, furnace, AC, cars on distant roads, etc (a general low frequency rumble). Also, the more you turn it up the more "line noise" you hear. Line noise sounds like static and can become so loud that it drowns out the distant noise you want to hear. WARNING: Opening a door or speaking anywhere near the mic with the volume cranked up will blow the headphones right off your head and probably ruin your hearing too. Please note that most security DVR systems do NOT have an audio gain control or volume knob. Audio gain in a security system might be useful to folks who complain that a certain mic only recorded things a few feet away!
They do make expensive, professional microphones for videographers and film makers that are very sensitive to distant, quiet noises while keeping background static and noise to a minimum (think about recording roaring lions from 500 yards). Some use a parabolic collector (like a satellite dish) and some called shotgun mics are long, skinny things that listen to a very narrow tunnel of sound much like binoculars or a zoom lens that looks far away - but at a very small area. Search Amazon for "parabolic microphone" to see such toy and professional microphones.
Back to this security mic. Actually this "powered, active electronics" mic has less noise and is better for security recording than some professional microphone costing hundreds of dollars. You see, security mics have high gain, low noise and AGC. For any audio geeks out there, this mic is much quieter with MORE gain than any dynamic mic - but with less dynamic range. I would have to use a phantom powered or active electronics professional mic to get as much sheer gain with as low a noise floor as this cheap security mic!
In conclusion, for it's intended use this microphone is very good - all that you need. But, can you record a grasshopper burp in the next block? Nope! Once again, your mileage (and mic sensitivity) will vary depending on the security DVR you hook it to but I suspect that most security mics will record at about the same "loudness". Try this one and see if it doesn't fill the bill for recording sound around the area your camera covers.

Vocally Voice Activated Phone Dialer Review

Vocally Voice Activated Phone Dialer
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I just installed one of these for a relative that was having trouble dialing the phone, or even navigating through the directory system used on many standard telephones.
It is easy to install, set-up and use. To set up, the user simply says the name and repeats it once... if the two voice samples are fairly consistant, the number may then be entered. Something like 50 names/numbers may be stored.
After that, when the phone is picked up, a computer voice asks "number to dial please" ... after the name is given, it is played back for verification, and the number is dialed. SIMPLE!
It can also be programmed to dial spoken numbers, if desired. In general, after the voice samples are stored, the phone will respond only to the person who submitted the samples, although a similar voice can possibly activate dialing.
This item is sold by several "secondary sellers" on Amazon... prices and shipping rates vary from seller to seller over time, pick the one that best suits your needs.

TomTom VIA 1435TM 4.3-Inch Portable Bluetooth GPS Navigator with Lifetime Traffic & Maps Review

TomTom VIA 1435TM 4.3-Inch Portable Bluetooth GPS Navigator with Lifetime Traffic and Maps
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This is the third TomTom I've owned, so I am familiar with their units going back for about 4 years. When I saw the announced Via units, I preordered a 1435TM, which arrived last week.
The good:
This is the most advanced TomTom I've owned in this price range. Screen is sharp and bright, the built-in mounting is very good, and the device is super thin. The free lifetime map updates are a big plus, as is the free traffic information. They build the traffic receiver into the charging cord, which seems to work well.
The information display is very clean while showing a lot of useful information. Calculation time for routes is fast, and the lane assist feature is helpful, although I have not been through a very complicated unknown interchange. The signs don't match what you see on the road, so you need to trust the lane designation.
The screen aspect rotates automatically depending on whether you mount it from above or below; which is very handy.
Voice recognition is very good, although this was not a big seller for me. The street name voice is noticibly robotic, but again, this was not a big selling point for me.
Little features like auto power-off when the charger power is stopped (IOW when you turn the car off) are helpful, but I would like it to take longer than 10 seconds, the only setting. The auto day/night color setting seems to work fine, but I cannot find anywhere where you can turn this setting on or off.
The not so good:
The touch screen is a tad less sensitive than I'd like. It's not a big problem, but can be annoying at times.
When entering an address, the unit is very laggy. This appears to be due to searching a huge database of city and street names, but it makes the address entry less fluid of a process than it could be. Type a letter or two, then wait for it to filter the available matches before it allows you to type in additional letters. Again, more of an annoyance than a true problem.
Overall I am very pleased with the purchase. It's not perfect, but it is a good value for the price in my opinion.

TRENDnet 56K Internal PCI Data/Fax/TAM Modem TFM-PCIV92A Review

TRENDnet 56K Internal PCI Data/Fax/TAM Modem TFM-PCIV92A

This modem works fine so far. I didn't have trouble getting the MOH to install, I just couldn't find it. Right-clicking the application icon in the system tray of the desktop displays this option. I am not very computer literate, so I didn't think to look there. You must run the software installation FIRST before hardware installation according to the instruction book. Even so , my computer could not find the both drivers. I ended up going thru "my computer" and clicking on the "drivers" and then they installed.( There is an audio driver also). So far everything is running good.
I also had to change a setting on ISP dial up box so that it would choose the correct modem. I just wanted to add these
things in case there is someone like myself out there who
purchases this. Hope this helps.

MEElectronics M9P-BK Hi-Fi Sound-Isolating In-Ear Headphones with Microphone (Black) Review

MEElectronics M9P-BK Hi-Fi Sound-Isolating In-Ear Headphones with Microphone (Black)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Introduction
The M9P IEMs hail from a small California-based company by the name of MEElectronics. They produce a wide range of IEMs that cater to different users with various sound signatures. The M9 and M9P IEMs are among the most inexpensive products available and are currently selling for $20 and $23 respectively. I decided to buy the M9P IEMs because they not only function as earphones but will also have use as a headset for my cell phone and iPod Touch. After breaking them in and listening to them with a variety of music in my collection, these are my favorite IEMs in the sub $30 price range and are fantastic earphones for the price.
Technical Specifications
Driver: 9mm dynamic driver
Frequency Response: 20Hz - 20KHz
Impedance: 16 Ohm
Sensitivity: 95dB/mW
Cable Length: 1.2m/4ft.
Packaging/Accessories: The M9Ps come packaged in an attractive transparent box and include a bevy of accessories including a hard zippered case, a cable wrapper, four sets of silicone eartips which includes a set of biflanges, a shirt clip and an airline adapter. Considering that the M9Ps only cost about $23, MEElectronics has included a highly impressive accessory package that puts many other inexpensive IEMs to shame.
Design and Build Quality: The M9Ps feature lightweight aluminum housings which feel durable and are ported at the rear to allow for more air flow. This helps with the low end response and the soundstage but cuts down the isolation.
The cable is perhaps the best I've seen on any IEM. It's lined with what appears to be delicate braided silver wiring inside and coated with a transparent plastic coating that both looks very attractive and makes it feel very durable. The cable is properly relieved at both ends which inspires confidence in terms of long term durability. Because of the great cable design, microphonics are negligible when worn straight down and practically non-existent when worn over-the-ear.
All in all, these are very attractive and durable IEMs that should be able to stand up to pretty heavy usage and last quite a long time.
Comfort and Fit: MEElectronics includes three pairs of single flange silicone eartips as well as a pair of bi-flanges for deeper insertion and better isolation. I have small ear canals so I opted for the smallest single flange tips and managed to get a good seal. The included silicone eartips are fairly soft and made the M9Ps very comfortable to use for long periods of time.
One thing that was a constant point of contention with the M9Ps is the seal itself. Now it's common knowledge that IEMs require a good seal in order to sound their best but the M9Ps take that concept to another level. Simply put, I've never come across an IEM that was as finicky about the seal as the M9. If the seal wasn't absolutely perfect, the resultant sound was imbalanced, shallow or just plain bad. That said, using the M9Ps while on the move isn't the best idea because of its need for a perfect seal.
Sound Quality
Usage/Burn-in: These IEMs have been given 50+ hours of burn-in prior to review but settled into their final sound signature after about 10 - 15 hours.
Low End: The most dominant frequency range on the M9Ps is also the best detailed. Prior to burn in, the bass was somewhat muddy but now, it has tightened up and boasts surprising refinement. Bass is still a bit boomy but not too much so. Extension is pretty good as well, reaching down into the sub bass levels before rolling off.
Midrange: Definitely recessed in comparison to the other two frequencies (especially the bass) but not so much so that it is overly detrimental to the overall sound signature. They're smooth and don't stand out too prominently, which may disappoint fans of Rock and Alternative music. The low end can creep up on bassier tracks which does make the midrange sound a bit washed out in comparison but overall, I think they are decently detailed.
Highs/Treble: Nice extension, detail and clarity. There's a bit of harshness in the upper treble region but overall, highs are pleasant sounding and have a nice sparkle.
Soundstage: Wide and airy. Imaging isn't too great but instrument separation is surprisingly good.
Sound Signature: Dark, warm, thumpy and very fun. Very bass forward and somewhat aggressive but rarely fatiguing. I love the sound signature of these when listening to Hip-Hop, Jazz and R&B. I think the low end is a bit too overpowering to be used with much Rock and Alternative music and the highs are a bit too harsh to be used with Classical but overall, these are very versatile and will work with a large number of genres that I haven't mentioned. This is definitely the best and most entertaining sound signature I've heard for the price.
Microphone Quality: Very good considering the price. Voices come through clean and clear and the microphone does a decent job of filtering out ambient noise but can get overwhelmed in noisy environments. It works well for making phone calls as well as Skype calls on the iPod Touch.
Conclusion
As a whole, I'm very impressed with the M9P IEMs. They are well designed, perform above their price range and are, above all, inexpensive. $23 is a very small price to pay for a great pair of IEMs and considering that price, I can't find much fault with them. While the bass may be a bit too deep for some listeners and there can be some harshness in the treble region, there isn't much these do wrong. If you're looking for a fun pair of IEMs that will work as a headset for your iPhone or other cell phone, sound good and won't put a strain on your wallet, look no further. These things are practically a steal.

LG SGEY0007301 Stereo hands free headset, Ear-bud Style head-set, Black, with Send/ End button Review

LG SGEY0007301 Stereo hands free headset, Ear-bud Style head-set, Black, with Send/ End button
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
First, I'd recommend reading all of the reviews for the LG Chocolate headphones which are identical to this except that they fit a standard 2.5mm headphone jack port and are silver, where these are specifically for those LG phones that have no such port such as my VX8700. I've found that all of the positive statements about the versatility of that setup are equally true for this one, right down to being able to plug into an input port on your car stereo (if equipped) to play through your auto stereo speakers hands-free and still be able to take and place calls.
That said I have some specific comments about the so-called "throwaway" earbuds that come with this set-- primarily that they are far better than they seem at first with but one small addition. Initially I had problems fitting them into my ear and they'd fall out if I even turned my head. While relatively clear, or at least as clear as my Sony Fontopia buds, they were lacking in bass for tracks that require good bass response such as Journey, The Eagles, Enya, or virtually all movie sound tracks(especially John Williams!). However, I took the little foam cover "booties" off of the Creative earbuds that came with my Zen and VOILA! they not only would stay comfortably in my ears but had greatly increased bass response with very little loss in midrange and high-end clarity! IMO they are now as good as the Sennheiser CX300 (bass as good without the tinniness, though not quite as clear midrange and highs) and better than the Fontopias or SP630's all-around. Nowhere near as good as CX500's or my monster supra-aural Sennheiser headphones, of course, but as good as anything I've tried in the $50 earbud class and better than most, and that's awesome condidering the price. So try some foam earbud covers before condemning these buds and springing for more expensive ones.
Overall I give this item a "100" on it's report card for it's price, versatility, and quality given it's intended purpose.

Parrot MKi9000 Advanced Bluetooth hands-free car kit for iPod Review

Parrot MKi9000 Advanced Bluetooth hands-free car kit for iPod
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
It works flawlessly for hands free calling and Bluetooth stereo music. I use it with my iPhone 3GS. Have been using this for 3 days now. I picked this over Parrot MKi9200 Advanced Color Display Bluetooth Hands-Free Car Kit and Parrot MKi9100 Advanced Bluetooth Hands-Free Car Kit because we did not want a display sticking out on the dash. If you are planning to install this by yourself I would recommend don't try without Honda Bluetooth® Wiring Harness Integrates Bluetooth cell phone kits with factory stereos in select vehicles, 2003-up or a similar product.
Pros:
- Easy to install
- Good quality microphone (it is hidden in the bin below the stereo and still picks up voice from the rear seat)
- Voice dial is great
- Spoken caller id (no need for a display)
- Bluetooth stereo
- Ports for your MP3 players
Cons:
- None major I can find at this point

Jabra Cruiser Bluetooth Car Kit, Speakerphone Review

Jabra Cruiser Bluetooth Car Kit, Speakerphone
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Saw the reviews here - many are just plain incorrect, very likely they did not bother to read the manual, which as the quickstart guide says 'the full version is online at jabra'.
A few examples:
Voice dialing: If your phone has this capability - you can voice dial no problem: Record the voiceprint for a number (via your phones feature), preferably while using the speakerphone so its better matched, then to use it 'press' - hold button for approx 1sec - (as opposed to tap, which is means 'quick click") the main answer button then say name - works fine, even with an old moto razr phone.
Power: Again, RTM - to save power (a great feature), the speakerphone sleeps after 10 minutes: To wake up, rather than cycle the less handy power switch, simply tap the main answer button
Bright lights: There is a way to go into night mode: "Press FM and volume up button simultaneously when the speakerphone is on. The light will then turn off. You can turn the lights back on with another press."
C'mon folks, take the two minutes to read the actual manual.
As for the rest - I've only had it a little while - the voice quality seems fine, the FM works great when the convertible top is down (Not often right now, even in CA) and the thing works quite well so far.
Bonus: The charger comes in two pieces so that you can use the USB to micro USB cable with your computer to charge it if you want. Conversely, I can now charge my old razr with by plugging in my USB to mini USB into its lighter adapter. Handy.
No affiliation with jabra - just picky about uninformed reviews

Jensen Deluxe Bluetooth Hands Free Kit with A2DP Music Transfer Review

Jensen Deluxe Bluetooth Hands Free Kit with A2DP Music Transfer

I bought this item for my brother, i set this up in his truck and the product delivered. Connected very easy with the iPhone also synced his contact. The music over the FM transmitter was phenomenal it took over the station with clarity. The calls were great i decided to use the external speaker for it instead of FM transmitter, the microphone can pickup the voice clear and cancel other sounds. Using both speaker and FM option it will cancel one out and return to its previous state. Very glad i choose this over the cigarrete lighter ones.

Bose®MIE2i mobile headset Review

Bose®MIE2i mobile headset
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
These are the sixth or seventh set of earbuds I've had for a succession of iPods and iPhones. I'm slightly hard of hearing, and I've gone for the 'phones that get best reviews for sound. Before these, the best I've had were the Klipsch s4i; those produce great sound, and good noise isolation, but I had to jam them so far into the ear canal that they got uncomfortable after a short while, or if I were sweating.
The Bose 'phones don't get quite so far into the bass as the Klipsch, but nothing I've ever tried beats them for clarity of overall sound. Nothing else even comes close. I find myself hearing lyrics clearly for the first time; the overall crispness and balance is absolutely amazing. I don't miss the pounding bass at all.
And I've decided, after wearing these for a couple of days, that noise isolation is over-rated. Sure, I can hear what's going on around me, but the same holds true when I hear music live, or listen over a speaker system. With the clarity of sound that Bose delivers, my attention is focussed on the music, even in a coffee shop where there are people talking at neighboring tables. I've even found that I can listen comfortably at significantly lower volumes and still distinguish the words and hear every riff and arpeggio distinctly.
And speaking of comfort. Wow! When I first put these on, I was sure that they were going to fall out, because I wasn't able to jam them into my ear canal. Didn't happen. These ear pieces sit most lightly, and they never budge! (I did find that the large tips fit my ears better and feel more secure than the medium tips that are on the ear pieces coming out of the box.) I can wear these for hours, and I feel no discomfort whatever. And because I'm listening at lower volumes, and the 'phones are not isolating me from my environment, I don't even have to take them out when I'm dealing with a cashier at a store or getting a grocery list from my wife.
Construction quality seems superb; the cables are thick and fairly stiff, so they don't tend to tangle. The "Stay Hear" tips clip into place, so that I can be virtually certain that I won't have the problem I've had with other earbuds (especially the Apple In-Ear units) that the tip stays in my ear when I pull the bud out.
The MIE2i handles the iPhone functions just fine, although, like with most iPhone headsets, it takes some practice to feel the inline controls with precision, so that you don't stop the music accidentally when you just meant to change the volume; double-clicking is just as sensitive and tricky as it is on other iPhone sets. Clarity at both ends is excellent, and the stiffness of the cables keeps the mike from rubbing on my clothes and generating noise.
The only negative thing I have to say about the Bose is that they are glaringly ugly. The cables are a bizarre black-and-white swirl; combine that unfortunate design decision with the fact that the shape of the buds and the stiffness of the cable causes the cables to stick out from your ear further than most earbuds, and the whole thing calls attention to itself and looks more than a little ridiculous.
Still, if you're looking for great sound and awesome comfort in a pair of earbuds that you're likely to be using for a long time, look no further than the Bose MIE2i. Worth every penny.
