(More customer reviews)Over the years I've taken almost every brand of headgear for a test drive. The majority of products that really got my attention were Plantronics. Truth be told, earlier editions of Jabra gear did not meet my standards. The Jabra devices that I tried out lost points on comfort, durability and functionality. After a little over a week's continuous use, these are my thoughts on the Jabra Extreme.
Out of the box, the headset easily charges via an AC adapter or the USB charger. After about two hours of charging, it was all systems go. Weighing in at less then an ounce, this is the first Jabra product that felt comfortable in my ear. Its light and barely noticeable. At one point I forgot that I had it on. Another major plus going for this unit is the immediate connection after plugging in the USB adapter. No downloads or installation to concern myself with. Battery life was about six hours before recharging.
Dialing up via Skype was a breeze. It works well with both Google Voice Chat and my cell phone. Conversations on all three mediums were crystal clear and without interruption. I like the fact that I can stay connected with my mobile phone while on Skype or Google Voice Chat. Surprisingly switching back and forth from the laptop to my mobile phone went smooth without call drops. I know I'll never come close to pairing up to the maximum eight devices allowed.
The Jabra Extreme operates with Windows XP, Vista, and Windows 7. Unfortunately, music listeners will not get stereo Bluetooth streaming because of the limited bandwidth of this system. The company boasts an operating range of 33 feet, I began to pick up signal distortion at about 25 feet. The features include; answer call, end call, reject, voice dialing, last number re-dial, mute, call waiting, volume control and hold. In order to utilize these soft-phone features, the Jabra PC suite must be installed on your computer via the included software mini disk.
The Jabra Extreme comes with a USB adapter, 2 Ear Gels (L or R), 2 ear hooks (S or L), 1 AC charger, 1 USB charger, quick start guide, software, and a one year warranty. A Skype voucher for two hours of calling to any land line or mobile phone is also included. Overall, I think the folks at Jabra got this one right. Its the first Jabra device that I can in good conscious recommend.
