Ultimate Ears SuperFi 5vi Noise Isolating Earphones w/ Microphone Review

Ultimate Ears SuperFi 5vi Noise Isolating Earphones w/ Microphone
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
First let me start with the good by saying that the top firing micro driver in these ear buds are fantastic. As far as sound goes they provide a very lively, rich and balanced sound. I listen to a wide variety of music and they did everything justice...Jazz, Rock, Classical and Electronica all sounded great. They are not reference monitors by any stretch but for casual listening bang for the buck they really deliver. As for comfort I was satisfied with these buds although the foam ear tips don't last very long. You will find yourself ordering replacements before long.
The headset function though is where the problems start. First, if you are not using these over the ears there is a tremendous amount of cable noise. If you can get a good fit over the ears this defeats some of the cable noise. The problem is once over the ear the microphone is now not placed optimally for talking. Finally ear canal phones (any I would imagine) produce a weird experience while talking hands free. Hold you ears shut and then talk...you will get an idea of what I am talking about.
The nail in the coffin though is the build quality. The junction from the cable to the 3.5 mm jack ends up failing after prolonged use. It took mine about eight months. Sadly I have heard other UE owners complain about the same thing with various models. I have owned three pairs of Shure earphones (E3c, E4c and 310s) before these and never had an issue with a frayed cable after years of use. Now I sadly have to deal with Logitech for a warranty repair.
If you really like the sound of the SuperFi 5's I would just buy it without the integrated headset feature and save yourself a few bucks. Just be aware of the issues with durability if you plan on using them often.

Motorola Bluetooth H710 Headset Review

Motorola Bluetooth H710 Headset
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I own and have sitting in a box somewhere a Samsung WEP 500, Aliph JawBone, Plantronics Voyager 510, Plantronics Discovery 665, Jabra BT500, the older Motorola HS850, and some Sony Ericsson model that I don't even remember. Crazy, I know. Also I have tried the Apple bluetooth headset (I have an iPhone), the Motorola H9 mini bluetooth, the Motorola slider H800, and the latest MOTOPURE H12 from Motorola. All of these have fit and/or form and/or feature and/or function issues that drive me nuts. The only one I ever use, and my favorite by far, is this Motorola H710 !!
Ever been frustrated because the volume of your headset was too low on even the highest setting, so you had to shove it deeper into your ear (defeats the purpose of 'hands free', I know) ?? Not with this sucker. This is the first headset that is actually *too loud* on the highest volume, so I keep it midway!! Wow. With all the others the first thing I would do is max the volume and never touch it again.
Ever gotten tired of holding down a tiny button for five whole seconds to turn your headset off and on? Join the rest of us. With this, you flip the voice boom open and it's on in 2 seconds; flip the boom closed and it's off just as fast. Brilliant. So easy. Have other companies seen this at all, I wonder? Can I sell this idea to Plantronics and Samsung?
Sick of gimmicky poor-fitting little custom eargels designed for f***ing Shrek or some other ear mutant? Yup, me too. Bypass completely with Motorola H710, and also skip the gnarly plugged-ear sensation before you step out in front of a semi truck coming at you from your headset side because you couldn't hear it.
How about accidental calls? Did the bastards who designed the Samsung WEP500 ever even ONCE try putting that thing in their pocket? Is it some sort of unfunny practical joke? I was blissfully unaware that I was redialing whoever my unfortunate last callee was over and over all fracking day long, and leaving like 5 minute long mostly blank messages (ok, maybe some rustling sounds) all over the place. The accidental redial call is IMPOSSIBLE with this brilliant headset.
GREAT HEADSET!! BUY NOW AND CRAIGSLIST YOUR OLD ONE THAT YOU HATE!! Oh yeah, I gotta run--craigslist awaits! Now where did I put that box full of headsets?
************************************ UPDATE ******************************
Obviously I have now updated to the Motorola H17 which is pretty much just a smaller cuter cooler version of the exact same thing!
I would now have to recommend the Motorola H17 -- such a great headset!

MOTOROLA W376G Review

MOTOROLA W376G
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I've had this Motorola Trac Fone for about 6 months and have been very pleased. It has excellent reception and sound quality. The built in speaker phone is also very good. The camera is just so-so, but that's not why I bought the phone.
I like buying my minutes only as I need them and you just have to purchase more within 90 days. When you purchase more, it just adds them to your current balance. If you don't purchase within the 90 day limit (a countdown is always visible on the screen) the phone shuts off and you lose whatever minutes you had. You can reactivate just by purchasing more minutes but you don't regain any you lost by not purchasing within the 90 day limit. You can purchase minutes on line at Tracfone or set up your phone to purchase. Your minute balance is also always on the screen. Mine came with 15 minutes to get me started. You can activate at the Tracfone web site and set up an account to buy more minutes. You can also call from the phone to activate and set up an account to purchase minutes that way.
Good things:
-Inexpensive to purchase (less than $30)
-Reasonable rates. I'm paying about 10 cents per minute
-Automatically doubles minutes for life of phone (buy 60 get 120)
-If you lose it, buy another, call Tracfone operator to transfer your number and minutes
-Bright clear screen
-Good sound quality
-Good reception
-Good number of ring tones and images to select from
-AC Charger is included
-FM radio included (earphone not included and it takes a micro plug, not a mini)
-Basic games included
-Internet access (but slow)
-Periodic email offers from Tracfone for discounted minutes (which double)
-Monthly plans if you want them
-Good battery life (I do not use the phone often so 1 charge will last several days)
-Minutes never expire as long as you renew within 90 days
-No contracts or agreements. Tired of it? Toss it.
-Sim chip, you can move to another phone and keep your address book
-Settings for indoor/outdoor ring
Bad things:
-No holster/case (buy one at Target)
-Somewhat larger in size and a little heavier than most cells
-Ring tones downloaded only from Tracfone site
-Cannot connect to PC/laptop (port is only for charging)
-Buttons take some getting used to, like the menus
-You pay for everything, no free or unlimited (3 text messages = 1 minute)
-You will receive free advertising from Tracfone but occasional advertising from others, if you accept the message, you get charged for it. (charge is about 1 text message)
-Charging port and earphone port (opposite sides of the phone) are difficult to open. I can't quite get my fingernail under it so I have to use a small pen knife
I'm very pleased with the phone and service. I dropped my other service and have been happy not to be billed every month for minutes I didn't use. I'm not a strong user of cell phones so it fits my life style. I have service wherever I travel, including remote areas. Your carrier will depend on your part of the country. We have AT&T here.
I may buy another for my wife who doesn't like cell phones but I'll feel better knowing she can call if she needs to. I can buy 60 minutes (120) for $20 and she's good for 90 days. When it gets close I'll just order the minimum again.

AT&T 1855 Corded Telephone with Digital Answering System and Speakerphone Review

ATandT 1855 Corded Telephone with Digital Answering System and Speakerphone
Average Reviews:

I like this phone okay, but the most annoying thing is there's no backlight for the LCD display. It's annoying to look at the LCD display to try to see who's calling but you can't unless the ambient light level around this phone is high enough. None of the buttons are backlit either, so forget about using this phone in the dark. Lastly, there's no hold feature to this phone.
On the plus side, though, it does seem pretty solidly built and is fairly compact so it doesn't take up much desk space.

Uniden DECT1580 DECT 6.0 Silver Cordless Digital Answering System with Caller ID Review

Uniden DECT1580 DECT 6.0 Silver Cordless Digital Answering System with Caller ID
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I bought this to replace an old Uniden EXA1978 900 mhz cordless phone with digital answering machine. The 1580 is equal or better in all aspects but lacks an input jack for a headset. I thought this would be a deal breaker but the addition of a speaker phone on the handset (I feel) makes up for this. My only other complaint which is a complaint about all digital answering machines is that you cannot turn off the volume of the base when someone leaves a message. You can only lower the volume to 1 which still allows you to hear someone leaving you a message. Not great when you're a light sleeper and you get a wrong number in the middle of the night. For what it is worth, you can turn off the ringers on both the base and handset. And you could turn the answer function off which would prevent the scenario just described. Sound quality and reception is excellent. Overall, I think the phone is fine for the money. Amazon's price at the time of this writing is competitive with a local box store that starts with a W.

The Hot Shoe Diaries: Big Light from Small Flashes Review

The Hot Shoe Diaries: Big Light from Small Flashes
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
SPOILER:
'Hot Shoe Diaries' is pure McNally and the best book I've ever read on flash photography. Two words: "buy it."
LONG VERSION:
Joe McNally's photo secrets were kicked out of the closet by the skeletons a long time ago. That's great news for those of us who have become infatuated (and infuriated) with the use of small flash units. Joe's latest book 'The Hot Shoe Diaries' is an exposé that tells all. There's never been a book on flash photography that covers the subject so thoroughly, so beautifully and so humorously. I'm certain that 'HSD' will reign as the undisputed champion on flash photography for a long time.
The first thing to know about 'HSD' is that even Joe has a hard time taking himself seriously. Joe repeatedly demonstrates his understanding of where he stands in the universe by filling 'HSD' with memorable photos - such as the self-portrait where he uses a chicken as a lightstand. Joe's humor is what sets 'HSD' apart from other photo books. It is what protects us from mind-numbing concepts, such as the "Inverse Square Law" (when did Congress pass that one anyway?).
Joe starts with the basics: gear, the fundamentals of digital photography and simple flash. He moves on to talk about one light shots. And two light shots. And lots-a-lights shots. He talks about where to put the lights and what to put between the lights and the subject. He shares a lifetime of stories. He inspires and encourages. Like I said, "pure McNally."
As with his first book, 'The Moment It Clicks', Joe fills the covers of 'HSD' with amazing and beautiful photos. These are the heart of 'HSD.' It's one thing to talk about flash photography. It's entirely another to demonstrate it again and again with stunning images. [Thanks also to the book designer who ran a good number of photos as double-trucks, aka: two-page spreads.]
'HSD' is for photographers of all levels - novice to expert. If you read 'Clicks' and were among the few disappointed because it wasn't a "how-to" book with lighting diagrams and such, 'HSD' is the book you were looking for. Plan on reading it again and again. I guarantee that every time you do, you'll pick up something new.
SPECIAL NOTE To Non-Nikon Shooters - 'HSD' Is Non-Denominational
It's no secret that Joe is a Nikon guy. Nikon terminology is used throughout the book. If you shoot something other than Nikon, think of it like an American talking to a Brit [if "elevator" = "lift", then "Auto FP" = "High-Speed Sync" and "Rear Curtain" = "2nd Curtain"]. Does this mean that 'HSD' is Nikon-specific? Absolutely not. As a lifelong Canon shooter, I've no hesitation in recommending this book to shooters of all denominations. The ideas and illustrations are universal.

When it comes to photography, it's all about the light. After spending more than thirty years behind the lens—working for National Geographic, Time, Life, and Sports Illustrated—Joe McNally knows about light. He knows how to talk about it, shape it, color it, control it, and direct it. Most importantly, he knows how to create it...using small hot shoe flashes. In The Hot Shoe Diaries, Joe brings you behind the scenes to candidly share his lighting solutions for a ton of great images. Using Nikon Speedlights, Joe lets you in on his uncensored thought process—often funny, sometimes serious, always fascinating—to demonstrate how he makes his pictures with these small flashes. Whether he's photographing a gymnast on the Great Wall, an alligator in a swamp, or a fire truck careening through Times Square, Joe uses these flashes to create great light that makes his pictures sing.

Dual XHD7714 AM/FM/CD player and HD Radio Built-it iTunes Tagging Review

Dual XHD7714 AM/FM/CD player and HD Radio Built-it iTunes Tagging
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I bought this stereo because it was one of only a few other models that have the Bluetooth, HD Radio, and Aux/USB/ipod Trifecta. Price wise none of the others come close. Typically other stereos require a special cable connected to the back of the stereo and require you to drill through your dash or have wires exposed under the console. The fact that this stereo has USB on the faceplate is really one ups the competition.
My area has 14 HD radio stations and you really can tell the difference when the HD signal locks in. Disc play back is what you would expect from any other player. The Aux and USB work great.
My favorite feature is the integrated Bluetooth. Pairing with my phone was a snap and receiving calls is simple and easy. Your music is muted while the caller id information (name and number) is displayed and when you end a call sound resumes. The microphone has good pickup and I have not had any complaints from people saying they could not hear me. I did not have to raise my voice either to talk.
There are only a couple of issues I have that warrant 4/5 stars.
1) The display is very difficult to read during the day time unless it is in direct sunlight (think black and white gameboy)
2) The display options are limited in that you cannot display the station call sign or song data while also displaying the time of day. You have to choose between seeing the station number and time, or station call sign and song name.
With that said though, these are only real minor issues and all of the other positive features outweigh them by far. I would recommend this to anyone, and would purchase again if I had another car.

I recently purchased the Garmin Nuvi 1390LMT to replace my Garmin Nuvi 760. I must say that I was pleased that this nuvi offered some of the same features as my previous one such as the bluetooth feature, traffic and text to speech. Sony MDR-V900HD Monitor Series Headphones with Reversible Earcups Review

Sony MDR-V900HD Monitor Series Headphones with Reversible Earcups
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
When I started shopping for headphones, I had some very specific criteria in mind: first, they must have good noise reduction, as their primary use would be in my dorm room where I wanted to decrease background noise as much as possible when studying.
Second, the sound must be of high quality because I'm picky in general and also because I intend to use them to analyze and learn music (both classical and popular) by ear.
Thiry, they must be large and comfortable. I have slightly big ears, and I wear my headphones for long periods of time, so they have to be of the highest comfort rating.
Finally, and equally significantly, they must have a low impedance. This refers to the electrical resistance of the headphones (their Ohm rating, or the omega symbol). The higher the impedance, the more power you need to run them properly. As you ascend through the price range of headphones, you will find that the impedance increases as well. High-quality headphones have higher impedance because the manufacturer assumes you will be plugging them into a home stereo or studio amplifier, which are typically set up to power headphones of 150-300ohm.
However, if you're like me, you may want to use these headphones elsewhere. Most portable devices like CD players are best suited to run 32ohm headphones at the most, and if you tried to run a pair of 150-300ohm headphones on something with this power rating, it would sound like a dying cow. More importantly to me, however, was the fact that my computer's sound card was rated at 32ohm. Since I do not have a home stereo in my dorm room, and most of my headphone use occurs on the computer, I had to pass up many great sets of headphones because of their high impedance ratings.
Every pair of headphones I looked at or listened to fell short in one of these areas - every pair except the Sony MDR-V900. I listened to them on a whim in a local music store while looking at Sennheisers, and they really impressed me. I thought they sounded great, and they sealed out background noise exquisitely. I thought they would be great if only I had a stereo at school, but then I looked at the back of the box: 32 OHMS IMPEDANCE! WOOHOO!!!
The bottom line is, these headphones sound amazing, have good sealing, are amazingly comfortable, and you can run them from practically anything with no loss in quality. I have not experienced the tinny highs or excess bass that others complain of. They perform great with classical music (orchestra, solo, quartet, etc), jazz, folk/bluegrass, and rock. Bowed instruments and woodwinds sound sweet and warm, guitar is clean and clear, drums are crisp and defined, bass is smooth and well-articulated, brass is clear as a bell, piano resonates like you're in the room with it, and vocals will feel like they're being sung directly to you.
The sound-proofing is good enough that I can really rock out in my fairly quiet office with no noise leakage except when I take them off and they aren't sealed around my ears. It's not so thick that I can't hear my phone ring, but my co-workers have trouble getting my attention vocally.
On a typical day, I wear these headphones almost continuously for 4 hours before and 4 hours after lunch, and have never needed to take a break because of discomfort. They do not get heavy, and the cups are so large that even my big ears barely touch them. They also look pretty sharp. The MDR-V900's are the best piece of musical reproduction equipment I have ever owned, and I would recommend them to anyone.
P.S. If you're shopping for headphones and plan on listening to a few, burn a CD to take with you to the store. They won't mind if you pop it in when you're spending these kind of bucks.

Following feedback I received an email from the seller to ensure I was completely satisfied, when I explained that I was satisfied to the point where my goal was a functioning phone and that lines on the screen didn't bother me but certaintly weren't mint condition. Sarah's Phone Shop has since reimbursed a portion of what I paid for phone that seems extremely fair given that I have a working calling and texting device with a few minor flaws. Definitely recommend for buyers who value honesty and fairness as well as the important functions of such devices.

Koss UR40 Collapsible Over-Ear Headphones Review

Koss UR40 Collapsible Over-Ear Headphones
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Somehow, just about any set of headphones can get close to a 5 star rating on here, even if they have 15mm earbud drivers that can't play the any bass below about 150 hz. Most mainstream consumer headphones make outrageous claims in the specs, but sound awful and bottom out trying to reproduce anything close to source material.
These Koss phones aren't audiophile quality, and the treble is a little bit muddy, but they're by no means harsh like most cheap headphones, and you hear just about everything in your music. Plus, they're pretty efficient...plenty of volume, even on portables that usually strain to produce audible music in loud settings like an airplane. Bass response is great, and I haven't been able to make the drivers clip, even during pretty loud listening. If you care what your music sounds like, it's almost impossible to find headphones worth hearing that aren't oversized and a little ridiculous looking, as these Koss are. But hey, if you're into image, buy some street style nightmares and listen to popular music that isn't worth hearing anyways.
These Kosses are definitely recommended, espcially since they're relatively portable for the size (being foldable), and they more than hold their own against anything in their price range in the present market. For about $20 more you can get some nice Grado SR60s that are remarkably true to your music, but they don't really travel well, and you can't wear them in anything but totally stationary settings thanks to their oldest-school design. And they don't quite bump like these budget Koss UR40 do. Plus, Koss makes it really easy to take advantage of their lifetime warranty, which I have done twice with other models. And if you buy them, post a review, since the other two reviews on here so far are suspiciously duplicate plant-sounding salespitch-type reviews. Enjoy.

iBeats Headphones with ControlTalk From Monster® - In-Ear Noise Isolation - Black Review

iBeats Headphones with ControlTalk From Monster® - In-Ear Noise Isolation - Black
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
First off, I own several pairs of headphones, both in ear and over ear, and the iBeats are above and beyond anything I've used. The first step was finding the right fit (of the 7 tips included, I found 2 that fit perfectly, one regular mold, and the other the "Airlock" style). The standard tips are a snug fit, and allow the bass to hit fairly hard. I have a pair of Koss in ear headphones, and the Bass does hit harder, but the iBeats bass is much cleaner. The "Airlock" style tips fit snug as well, and I found that while in my ears, they were comfortable, but after long periods of wear, after removing them there was some slight pain. I also own a pair of Skullcandy Hesh over ears, and the iBeats again sound better than the Skullcandies. While I would recommend the Hesh to anyone on a budget looking for good sound for your money, I would recommend iBeats as well to anyone that can afford them. The ControlTalk feature is nice for the iBeats as well, and I've had no complaints from anyone on the other end of my phone. If I had one complaint it would have to be that the ControlTalk on cable volume and music control feature does not work on the iPhone 3G, but I recently upgraded to the iPhone 4 and cannot complain about that now. The thing I can't give enough praise about is the noise cancellation. iBeats block out almost all outside sound, and you dont have to jack the volume up extremely high to do it. Simply put, it is excellent. All in all, these are the best sounding ear buds I've ever heard, and I would not hesitate to recommend them to friend or family.
